Davie Historical Society Hosts Tasty Event

The Davie Historical Society will host the 13th Annual Generations of Taste from 6-8 p.m., on Saturday, April 16, 2011, at the Old Davie School Historical Museum located at 6650 Griffin Road.

Cooks are invited to submit their favorite homemade dish from any of the following categories: drinks, appetizers, soups, salads, breads, vegetables, main dishes, desserts, country cookin’, and kid’s cookin’.

Come and taste unlimited samplings and vote for your favorite dish. Prizes will be awarded at the end of the evening.

The cost is $10 for adults and $4 for children ages 5 to 11. All proceeds benefit the Old Davie School Historical Museum. For more information, please call the museum office at 954-797-1044.

Town of Davie Offers American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Classes

American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Classes will be held at the Town of Davie Pine Island Pool located at 3800 S.W. 92nd Avenue.

2011 Class Schedule:

• March 14 – 18
• Monday -Friday
• 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Prerequisites

• Minimum age 15
• Swim 300 yards
• 10lb brick retrieval

74th Annual Orange Blossom Parade

Location: Davie Road between Orange Drive and SW 39 Street

The parade will kick off at 10:00 a.m. and will proceed down Davie Road, between SW 39 Street, south to Orange Drive. This Year’s Theme: “Dreams of the Future”

The Orange Blossom Parade is one the oldest and one of the very few events of its kind still in existence anywhere–much less in Southeast Florida. Pack up the family and head to Davie for a fun filled, old fashioned time!

Festival Both Days

The festival will feature over 250 displays and will take place down Orange Drive from Davie Rd. west to SW 66th Terrace. This portion of Orange Drive will be closed off during the festival. Free activities for both days includes an arts & crafts show, fine arts show, western town, musical entertainment, Native American display, animal farm, western carriage display, commerce corner, information displays green product displays and plant give-away. There will be a concert on Saturday, featuring The Ramblers and also Sunday, featuring Shane Duncan! There will also be a free kids’ corner that includes a bounce house, giant slide, and climbing wall. Admission to the festival is FREE.

Calling all Bakers!… Orange Cook-off Contest

Orange Cook-off Contest will be held on Saturday, February 19th in the Davie Woman’s Club building. This 11 year tradition is a must for serious bakers! Click here to download an application and mail it in today! Bring your entry between 10:00am and 12:00pm and judging will take place shortly after. Prizes will be awarded for the best “Orange” based recipes.

Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast
On Saturday, beginning at 7:00am, there will be a Pancake Breakfast at the Davie Moose Lodge, 4483 Davie Rd, Davie, put on by the Kiwanis. Pre-sale tickets are available at the Davie Town Hall, Special Projects office.

Strawberry Shortcake Festival
On Saturday and Sunday there will be an old fashioned Strawberry Festival at the Davie Woman’s Club located on Orange Drive, on the festival grounds. Fresh strawberries and homemade shortcake will be served as well as other strawberry creations.

Davie E.A.S.E. Holiday Toy Drive Needs Your Help

December 17, 2010. Davie, Florida: The Davie Emergency Assistance Service Effort, (E.A.S.E.) Foundation is in need of toys for girls and boys ages 6-12. The EASE Holiday Toy Drive provides toys for Davie families in need.

The EASE Foundation has made the following suggestions for boys and girls ages 6-12. For boys the suggestions are sports equipment, watches, sport jerseys, scooters, air hockey games, and model cars. For girls the suggestions are jewelry kits, art kits, makeup kits, books, body wash baskets, games, and Bratz and Barbie dolls with accessories.

If you can help, please drop off an unwrapped donation at any Davie Fire Station or Davie Fire Rescue Administration Building located at 6901 Orange Drive, or call Linda Owen at 954-797-1077 to drop off donations at the EASE Foundation site.

The E.A.S.E. Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded in 1988 by the business community and residents of the Town of Davie. Its purpose is to aid those qualified residents, on a one time basis, that are in need of temporary emergency assistance. The objective is to help those in need to ease their way back into a self-sustaining, productive life and to prevent homelessness. E.A.S.E. also reaches out to the homeless with food, clothing, and hygiene supplies.

December 9, 2010, Davie, Florida: The Town of Davie will host the grand opening of its new skateboard area on Friday, December 17, 2010, at 6 p.m. The skateboard area is located at Pine Island Park, 3801 South Pine Island Road. The public is invited to attend and to use the facility.

Ron Jon Surf Shop will have raffle drawings for prizes, and there will be demonstrations by BC Surf & Sport Skate Team. You must be present to register for the raffle between 6 and 6:30 p.m. Nova Southeastern’s radio station will be on hand to provide music.

The skateboard area will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at no charge for use. Youths under the age of 17 must have a consent form signed by a parent or guardian to participate in the skateboard area. Staff will issue a photo ID card when the consent form is submitted. For those over the age of 17, please have ID.
